RESUMEN
Las orquídeas, son plantas únicas y de gran valor para todo el planeta. Se distinguen por la
complejidad de sus flores, sus diversos diseños, colores y aromas. Ecuador es un país
privilegiado para su estudio y han sido examinadas desde tiempos coloniales. Las orquideas
se encuentran en ecosistemas de todas las regiones: costa, sierra, oriente y la región insular.
Ecuador, tiene más de 4.200 especies de orquídeas conocidas y se espera identificar
más especies. El 5 de diciembre de 2014, Ecuador es nombrado oficialmente como “El País
de las Orquídeas” distinción que está respaldada por el Decreto Ejecutivo No. 172. Esta
declaratoria se orientada a fortalecer la promoción y desarrollo del ecoturismo en el Ecuador,
apoyando a iniciativas locales y nacionales para su conservación; además de contar con un
registro nacional que permitirá promover la generación de información y especialización del
talento humano ecuatoriano; así como promocionar el comercio de orquídeas ecuatorianas a
través de ideas públicas o de ámbito privado, para el rescate, cultivo, reproducción y
comercialización de especies nativas.
Bajo este contexto, este trabajo de titulación tiene como objetivo diseñar un portafolio o
book fotográfico de las orquídeas en el noroccidente de Quito, específicamente, de la reserva
Geobotánica Pululahua, el mismo que busca difundir esta especie y ser un material de
consulta tanto para los guías de la reserva como para el público en general. Desde la parte
gráfica y de fotografía, este book ha procurado cumplir con un manejo del color y de
encuadres en donde resalten las orquídeas. Además, se ha proporcionado una breve
descripción de cada especie, siendo, a su vez, un material informativo.

Orchids are unique plants, and besides having great value for the entire planet; They are
distinguished by the complexity of their flowers, various designs, colors and aromas they
possess. In our country they were examined since colonial times, since it has a great totality
of flora, we can find them in the native forests of our country. Ecuador is one of the most
privileged places to study orchids, since in small areas we can find them in the regions:
Coast, Andes, Amazonia and even in the Galapagos Islands.
Our country has more than 4,200 known orchid species, however there are species waiting
to be recognized. On December 5, 2013, Ecuador is officially named as “The Country of
Orchids” distinction that is supported by Executive Decree No. 172. Last September, the
XXI World Orchid Conference was held, in the which were topics such as cultivation in
general, scientific research, and conservation thereof; specialists from different countries
knew how to share their experiences and knowledge about one of the most beautiful flora
species on the planet, orchids.
Orchids are the key to keeping the planet alive, they are main elements for scientists and
researchers, to generate economic development opportunities for communities and the
country.
The declaration is aimed at strengthening the promotion and development of ecotourism in
Ecuador; to support both local and national initiatives for their conservation, in addition to
having a national registry that will also help to promote information and specialization of
human and Ecuadorian talent, promote the trade of Ecuadorian orchids through public ideas
or private, for the rescue, cultivation, reproduction and commercialization of native species.
