La actividad productiva del sector turístico se ha caracterizado en los últimos años por un auge
de gran significancia. Las empresas vinculadas a este sector son generadoras de ingresos para el país
en las cuales operan y dan empleos. La Organización Mundial de Turismo [OMT] (2020) organismo de
referencia en la materia y adscrito a las Naciones Unidas, destaca que el turismo permite a los
gobiernos generar condiciones para impulsar el desarrollo sustentable. Para el año 2019 la
movilización de turistas nivel mundial fue de 1465,8 millones, sin embargo, a causa del COVID-19 esto
disminuyó en el 2020 a 409,1 millones. El proceso de recuperación de las empresas de este sector ha
sido lento, pero para el año 2022 se ha tenido un desempeño positivo, llegándose a 917 millones de
movimientos de turistas en el mundo (OMT, 2023).
En la actualidad se ha presentado un auge significativo en el turismo asociado con la
naturaleza en ese orden de ideas, Parra y Rolon (2021) destacan que el turista se ha inclinado hacia el
ecoturismo, donde el interés principal se centra en lugares que le ofrezcan recreación, descanso,
aventura en contacto con la naturaleza. En otras palabras, se ha acrecentado la sensibilidad ambiental
y el gusto por lo natural. Entre las preferencias turística está los Eco Lodge diseñados bajo en concepto
de turismo sostenible, que representan edificaciones pequeñas elaboradas en áreas naturales o que
están bajo régimen de protección mediante las cuales se persigue ofrecer alojamiento confortable y
otros servicios recreativos en armonía con el ambiente. Estas infraestructuras generalmente están
construidas basado en diseños y materiales ecológicos o reciclables, el diseño arquitectónico busca
estar en armonía con el entorno y respetando el medio ambiente.
En el caso del Ecuador, al igual que en el resto del mundo, la actividad turística igual se vio
afectada por la pandemia, sin embargo, en el año 2022 se ha tenido un panorama alentador, ya que
según cifras del Ministerio de Turismo del Ecuador (2022) para el primer semestre de ese año, los
ingresos por turismo ubicaron a esta actividad económica en la cuarta posición respecto al aporte el
producto interno bruto (PIB) del país, siendo la cantidad de 63,2 millones de USD. Las cifras positivas
del Ministerio de Turismo del Ecuador, junto a las potencialidades turísticas que se tiene en el país, en
especial por sus atractivos naturales, generaron condiciones para emprender en el desarrollo de
instalaciones como un Eco Lodge y en el reimpulso de los ya existentes.

The productive activity of the tourism sector has been characterized in recent years by a boom
of great significance. Companies linked to this sector generate income for the country
in which they operate and provide jobs. The World Tourism Organization [UNWTO] (2020) organization of
reference in the matter and attached to the United Nations, stresses that tourism allows
governments create conditions to promote sustainable development. For the year 2019 the
worldwide tourist mobilization was 1465.8 million, however, due to COVID-19 this
decreased in 2020 to 409.1 million. The recovery process of companies in this sector has
been slow, but by 2022 there has been a positive performance, reaching 917 million
movements of tourists in the world (UNWTO, 2023).
At present there has been a significant boom in tourism associated with the
nature in this order of ideas, Parra and Rolon (2021) highlight that the tourist has leaned towards the
ecotourism, where the main interest is focused on places that offer recreation, rest,
adventure in contact with nature. In other words, environmental sensitivity has increased
and the taste for the natural. Among the tourist preferences is the Eco Lodge designed under the concept
of sustainable tourism, which represent small buildings built in natural areas or that
are under a protection regime through which it seeks to offer comfortable accommodation and
other recreational services in harmony with the environment. These infrastructures are generally
built based on ecological or recyclable designs and materials, architectural design seeks
be in harmony with the environment and respecting the environment.
